World War Two Tour of the Jewish Quarter of Amsterdam and Anne Frank
Tour description
World War Two Tour of the Jewish Quarter and Anne Frank.
Before World War Two Amsterdam was known as the "Jerusalem of the West" because of the large numbers of Jewish people living here. There was a thriving Jewish community in Amsterdam for centuries and during the Second World War this community would suffer the horrors of the Holocaust.
I will take you on a journey through Amsterdam's old Jewish Quarter and show you the places and tell you the stories, some known and some less well known, about what happened to the Jewish community under the Nazi occupation.
Stops we make on the walking tour:
- Shadow Wall Memorial
- National Holocaust Names Monument
- Monument to Jewish Deaf Victims of the Holocaust
- National Holocaust Museum
- Hollands Schouwburg (former deportation center)
- De Plantage Restaurant (former records building)
- Artist Zoo
- Dutch Resistance Museum
- Henri Polaklaan
- Auschwitz Memorial
- Portugese Synagogue
- Dokwerker Statue
- Jewish Museum
- Amsterdam City Hall
To really understand the story of Anne Frank and what happened to the Jewish community in Amsterdam come with me on a journey into the Jewish Quarter.
