Tour description

This tour will be a great introduction to the city to get your bearings as you explore one of the UKs most walkable cities. We will explore the must see points of the Old Town and also the stars of the New Town for a introduction to this divided city.

Step into Edinburgh's past with my walking tour—a blend of my love for local history as a history teacher and my insider knowledge of the city's best spots. Whether you're a first-time visitor or short on time, this tour will leave you with memorable stories and hidden gems.

We'll begin just off the Royal Mile, on Cockburn Street at the bottom of Warriston's close - 1 minute from the train station.
Here we will go up to the Mile
where I'll reveal its dark & twisted past—public executions, witch trials, and grim tales. I'll also share curious facts about Edinburgh's rich history, like why unicorns seem to pop up everywhere in this magical city.

From there we will hop over the mound into the New Town where I'll explain the divide in the city and point out some excellent spots to go that are away from the typical tourist haunts.

Next, we'll visit Greyfriars statue to hear the touching story of Greyfriars Bobby and explore Edinburgh's grim history of grave robbing and its two most notorious murderers inside the graveyard.

We'll stop by Victoria Place, Scotland's most photogenic street and a rumored inspiration for Diagon Alley. Then, at the lively Grassmarket, I'll share fascinating stories behind the quirky pub names lining the square, and point out some good spots for a pint or a bit of chat.

Our journey ends just before The Vennel viewpoint, where you'll get the best angle of Edinburgh Castle and can enjoy some award-winning ice cream nearby.

Along the way, I'll highlight the best coffee spots, delicious food, and lively pubs to help you experience Edinburgh like a local.

The order of the route is subject to change. Edinburgh is a hilly city please ensure you are wearing correct footwear and you are well enough to partake.
