Tour description

Join me for a 2-hour walking tour through the old Hanseatic district.

This tour will take you on a journey through the fascinating history of Bryggen, the historic heart of Bergen. Together, we will explore the city's evolution from its foundation in the 11th century to the devastating fire of 1955, which destroyed a large part of Bryggen.

I work in French, Italian, English, and Norwegian.

  • Weather: The tour takes place regardless of weather conditions (in Bergen, always bring an umbrella!)
  • Timing: Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.

I am looking forward to meeting you all

Outside visit
Hanseatic Museum
The building that now houses the Hanseatic Museum was once the first structure encountered when entering the old Hanseatic quarter. It is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Bergen, reconstructed in 1704 following the great city fire of 1702. Our journey through the captivating history of Bryggen begins here.

Outside visit
Bryggen
We will explore the heart of Bryggen, uncovering the harsh living conditions endured by Hanseatic merchants who spent years in Bergen, often living without natural light and without the company of women. We will walk through the historic wooden buildings, following the narrow alleyways, and conclude at the gardens. We will also observe some of the kjellere—the only stone buildings in the settlement—which were used to store important documents safely, protecting them from fire and other hazards.
3
Outside visit
Bryggens Museum
The Bryggen Museum has been built on a major archaeological site, offering direct insight into Bergen’s medieval past. It showcases real artifacts from daily life, explains the influence of the Hanseatic League, and provides essential context for understanding the Bryggen wharf
