Peralada: From the Republic to the Dictatorship

The tour lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes
Available in Catalan and Catalan

Description

In Peralada, there is an ongoing historical memory recovery project initiated by the Institut d’Estudis Empordanesos, with the support of the Peralada City Council, the Memorial Democràtic, and the Museu Memorial de l’Exili.

After the initial research conducted in 2025, in 2026, the aim is to disseminate the study's results while gathering new contributions for its publication in 2027, with actions such as recording oral testimonies, an educational project with the local school, a campaign to collect materials, and historical routes.

In light of the success of the historical routes conducted during Easter, new ones have been scheduled for this summer to continue spreading the results and simultaneously raise funds for the project.

WHAT DOES THE ROUTE CONSIST OF?

We will take a tour mainly through the historic center of Peralada, where we will (re)discover significant spaces, events, and figures from the first half of the 20th century. “Did you know that in just over 10 years, Alfons XIII, Azaña, and Franco stayed in Peralada, as well as the works of the Prado?”

We will visit spaces that are not usually open to the public. Therefore, there will be an interior part, and we will adapt to weather conditions. During the itinerary, various unpublished resources such as documents, photographs, newspaper clippings, testimonies, and period objects will be used to accompany the explanations.

This will last approximately 1:30 hours and will be led by Jordi, a historian from Peralada and the project manager. Each route will be unique due to the contribution each of you can make. That is why we encourage you to participate!

LANGUAGE
The routes will be conducted in Catalan, but for groups of at least 5 people who request it, consideration will be given to conducting them in Basque, English, or Spanish.
