Tour description
Central Burying Grounds. Come with Pete starting at this burying ground. It holds many interesting early Bostonians, including some victims of the Boston Massacre and Gilbert Stuart, painter of George Washington's portrait.
Edgar Allan Poe Square. This stop features a statue of a raven and other elements commemorating Poe, who was born in Boston. Appreciate the unique statue and the artistic interpretation of Poe's connection to the city.
Park Street Church Crypt. Get a glimpse into the crypt through basement windows. It's a fascinating, if macabre, piece of history. Observe the architecture and imagine what lies beneath.
Bromfield Street – Boston’s Last Remaining Paths of Historic Alleys. Bromfield Street is one of the best-preserved examples. It offers a glimpse into the city's past, away from the grander thoroughfares. Note the historic buildings and the feeling of stepping back in time. Pete has a pleasant surprise that connects his past with this historic street.
Ether Dome at Massachusetts General Hospital. While part of a major hospital, the Ether Dome is a historic surgical amphitheater where the first public demonstration of surgical anesthesia took place in 1846. It's a significant site in medical history.
Harrison Gray Otis House. This magnificent Federal-style mansion was designed by Charles Bulfinch (Massachusetts State House designer) and is one of the few surviving examples of the grand homes that once lined Beacon Hill.
Louisburg Square. A private, residential square on Beacon Hill, Louisburg Square is one of the most exclusive and picturesque areas of Boston. We will walk around its perimeter and admire the stunning townhouses.
Acorn Street. Cited as the "most photographed street in America," Its cobblestones and gas lamps make it feel like a step back in time. Get ready with your camera!
We end the tour near Government Center for easy access to public transportation. Please note that Pete will be recommending many other places and things to see and do while you continue your visit to our wonderful city.
