Bukhara - The Eternal City of the Silk Road

The tour lasts 3 hours
Available in Italian

Description

This personalized and exclusive tour focuses on the Silk Road and the special role that Bukhara played in the ancient global trade route. First of all, as a local expert, I will share stories about the locals, the history, culture, and traditions of Bukhara, which you won't find in any tourist guide. Then, we will literally dive into history: we will visit caravanserais, meet local artisans who pass down tradition from generation to generation, discuss how goods and ideas were exchanged, discover which religions existed, and experience the hospitality of the locals.

Together we begin a journey to discover a city that retains the authentic timeless atmosphere of the Silk Road and, at the same time, breathes modern life!

During the tour we will see and discuss:

  • The birth of the Silk Road and the role of Bukhara
  • Labi Hauz Complex and Bukhara's water supply system
  • Puppet Museum
  • Sayfiddin Caravanserai and the trade system
  • Silk, spice, and tea trade
  • Jewish Quarter: history, traditions, and legacy
  • Toqi Sarrofon and the Silk Road infrastructure
  • Magoki Attori Mosque and past/present religions in Bukhara
  • Toqi Telpakfurushon and cultural expression through clothing
  • Hammam Bozori Kord
  • Toqi Zargaron and silk production in Bukhara
  • Poi Kalon Complex with the Great Tower (Kalyan Minaret)
  • Old residential neighborhoods
  • Iconic Boloi Hauz Mosque with the marvelous columns

    IMPORTANT NOTES

• The main purpose of this tour is to introduce the Silk Road and immerse in the ancient history of Bukhara. If you are looking for a traditional tour with fun and games, this tour is NOT FOR YOU.

• On two occasions payment will be necessary: when we taste the spice/herbal tea with sweets (30,000 Uzbek sum (about 2.2 euros) per person) and when we take a golf cart (20,000 (about 1.5 euros) per person) to cross the old residential neighborhoods of Bukhara where the locals live.

• If you wish to book a tour with me, please read the following notes: Usually, tours on the GuruWalk platform do not have a fixed price. At the end of the tour, each traveler leaves a tip depending on how much they appreciated the tour and the service,  between (at least) 15 euros and 50 dollars per person. However, usually, some people ask what would be a fair tip to leave. In Uzbekistan, Italian-speaking tour guides are generally paid between 70 and 100 euros per day. But since you are the best judge to evaluate the tour and its value, the final decision is up to your generosity.
