Changing of the Guard at La Moneda and Pre-Hispanic Villages in Santiago
In our FreeTour, you will enjoy a Republican act that has been in effect since the beginning of the Republic until today.
We will meet at the established place and time to enjoy the Changing of the Guard at the La Moneda Palace, but first, we will stop at Morandé 80, an emblematic site of September 11, 1973, where we will explain its historical significance. Then we will visit the monument to President Salvador Allende.
Next, we will witness the Changing of the Guard at the La Moneda Palace. Afterwards, we will discuss its origin as the Mint House and its transformation into the seat of government, along with the formation of the civic center, and why there are so many flags. We will also address the events of 1973.
We will continue along Huérfanos promenade, Bandera street, and Ahumada promenade, explaining the origin of their names, until we reach the Monument of the Indigenous Peoples, inaugurated in 1992. There you will learn about the cultures that inhabited the territory before the arrival of the Spaniards, such as the Picunches, Mapuches, Huilliches, and Pehuenches, as well as the influence of the Inca Empire and its road network, the Qhapaq Ñan, in addition to historical and popular culinary facts of the Plaza de Armas of Santiago de Chile.
Finally, we will visit the interior of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago in case the changing of the guard does not take place.
This is a Free Tour, and we greatly appreciate a nice review, as well as tips, to continue spreading the cultural contribution of our city. See you 🇨🇱
