Free Tour of the Changing of the Guard at La Moneda and Pre-Hispanic Villages in Santiago
Tour description
Once we meet at the agreed-upon place and time, we will begin our Free Tour and stop at Morandé 80, an emblematic site from September 11, 1973, where we will explain its historical significance. Then we will visit the monument to President Salvador Allende.
Next, we will witness the Changing of the Guard at La Moneda Palace. Afterward, we will learn about its origins in 1805 as the Mint and its transformation into the seat of government in 1846, along with the development of the civic center and the significance of its flags and architecture. We will also discuss the events of 1973.
We will continue along Paseo Huérfanos, explaining the origin of its name, until we reach the Monument to the Indigenous Peoples, inaugurated in 1992. There we will review which cultures inhabited the territory before the arrival of the Spanish, including Picunches, Mapuches, Huilliches and Pehuenches , in addition to the influence of the Inca Empire and its road network, the Qhapaq Ñan .
Finally, we will visit the interior of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago if the changing of the guard does not take place.
This is a Free Tour, and we would greatly appreciate a nice review, as well as tips, to continue spreading the cultural contribution of our city.
