Essential Tour of Monumental Orihuela

Meeting Point: We will start at the iconic Plaza de Santiago, in front of the majestic church. After a brief introduction about the origins of the city, we will head to the Church of the Virgin of Monserrate (note: do not confuse it with Montserrat! I will explain the reason for this distinction).

Art and Tradition: We will visit the Church of Santiago (subject to availability, Saturdays are a lottery) to discover its fascinating connection with the Catholic Monarchs. Afterwards, we will make a mandatory stop at the Museum of the Reconquest, key to understanding the Moors and Christians festivals.

Unique Curiosities:
At the Town Hall, we will meet "La Diablesa," probably the most original and groundbreaking Easter procession in all of Spain.

Architecture and Nobility: We will admire the façade of the Church of Santa Justa and Rufina before heading to the Cathedral of Orihuela. There, we will decipher its uniqueness and the figure of the Covered Knight, the only one who has the privilege of not removing his hat before God.

A Closing with Poetry
We will end at the Plaza de Ramón Sijé. Here, I will talk to you about the renowned Orihuela poet Miguel Hernández. To make your morning complete, I will show you the way to his House-Museum (free of charge), the perfect golden touch for your visit.

Guide's Tip: I recommend wearing comfortable shoes (and a fan and water in the hot months) and being eager to discover the best-kept secrets of what was once the second capital of the Kingdom of Valencia. I look forward to seeing you!
