Free tour - Hidden Paris, the legends and fun facts
Description
Discover a lesser-known side of Paris, weaving together forgotten astronomy and chilling urban legends. The walk begins at the Louvre, tracing the Paris Meridian and its bronze Arago medallions, before touching on the legend of Belphégor said to haunt the museum's galleries. Following the Seine to the Pont Neuf, the route crosses onto Île de la Cité, the heart of the tour: rue de la Colombe and its fabled 1225 love story, rue Chanoinesse where a gruesome barber-and-pastry-cook duo allegedly operated in the 14th century, and Notre-Dame, with its diabolical pact behind the ironwork of craftsman Biscornet. The walk closes along the bridges — Petit Pont, ravaged by fire in 1718, Pont d'Arcole, Pont de Grève and Pont de la Tournelle — with a nod along the way to the 1937 "perfect crime" aboard the Paris metro. About ninety minutes of history, mystery, and small secrets even locals often don't know.
