Description

Discover Badajoz on an essential tour of its historic center. In this free tour of about two hours, you will get to know the largest Arab fortress in Europe, the heritage of a melting pot of civilizations, and the unique character of this emblematic border city, where history, architecture, and the gastronomy of Iberian ham come together on the banks of the Guadiana River.

We will start at Plaza Minayo, next to the historic López de Ayala Theater, to delve into the monumental center and admire the fortified Cathedral of San Juan Bautista and the Godoy Palace. After passing through the cozy Plaza de la Soledad with its unique Giralda and the Hermitage of Soledad, we will ascend among historic convents like the Carmelites and the Adoratrices to the emblematic Plaza Alta and the old Market of Supplies.

From there, we will access the imposing enclosure of the Alcazaba of Badajoz. In this defensive complex, we will discover the famous Espantaperros Tower, the Alpendiz Gate, and the traces of Romans, Visigoths, and Muslims. Skirting the Archaeological Museum and the Convent of Santa Ana, we will conclude the visit in front of the majestic Puerta de Palmas, the most photogenic symbol of the city by the river.
