Free walking tours in Coimbra

We did a free walking tour in Coimbra with João, and it ended up being just me and my husband, so we basically got a private tour. We used the chance to ask a bunch of questions about university life, and João had so many fun stories and little details. After his comments on each spot, we honestly started seeing the city with different eyes, it was really insightful. We covered all the key places, plus he gave great recommendations for where to go and what to eat. He’s also just a genuinely pleasant person to spend time with. We enjoyed it a lot and would 100% recommend.

Roger is a true gem! I work in the tourism industry, and it has been a long time since I have had such an entertaining and at the same time captivating tour. He did bring Coimbra's history to life. Kings and Queens that shaped the Portuguese history and also students and fratentity traditions of centuries came to life through his stories. If you go to Coimbra, let him be your guide!

He know so much about history and the life in Coimbra. He is an open book, his love for stories can be seen all the way through the tour. Sometimes wants to tell even too much history infos, its hard to keep track for 2 hours straight, but it was a great tour to getting to know the city more.

José was an amazing guide for our tour. He is really nice, so you are confortable since the beginning. He speaks a really good English, and always try his best to understand your questions. We did a Coimbra tour, and it was nice to see the Tourist Spots, but also some hidden places. We learnt a lot about the traditions of the scholars here. José helped us to take photos, and he give us some jokes. After the tour, he also give us more recommendations in the city, like restaurants, where to take a good coffee to hear fado,... It was one of my favorite tour ever!

Joao Mendez was excellent and very informative. Since he is a native, he had a lot of local information to share. He went beyond allowed time and gave us tips on cuisine as well. My family and I were just sad that Coimbra isn't advertised much, however Joao was the perfect guide to have.

A very informative tour full of history concerning the city and country

Joao was great at making lemonade out of lemons! It was pouring rain and windy for most of our tour. We were the only guests who showed up and Joao gave us a great tour despite the awful weather conditions. We learned a lot about the history and culture of the city.
