Informative tour from a very knowledgeable guide. He was able to answer all our questions, which is quite unique in our experience. Among the better tours we did on the continent. We got a bit of time at certain sights to walk around on your own, which was alsno nice. Would highly recommend it to get some insight into the history of Rio and Brazil.

Amazing tour and guide. I raccomand it

This is a must do tour for anyone visiting Rio and who wants to have a greater understanding of the African influence, history and culture on this city. Our 14 year old daughter absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop talking about the tour on our way home. Nina was absolutely amazing and passionate about telling not only the history of African Brazilians but also their current plight. 10/10

Very educational and fun walking tour. Strongly recommend. Our tour guide Natalia is the best walking tour guide I had in last 2 months traveling in South America. She is native of Rio and very knowledgeable on history and the area. She is fun and kind to everyone.

Bruno knows so much about what he’s talking about and shares it with genuine passion for Brazil’s history. I was moved by the way he guided the tour—with a real and emotional tone that made us not only understand the facts, but truly feel them. He brought to light parts of the past many of us might prefer to close our eyes to and forget, yet did so in a way that was both honest and respectful. This tour is not just informative - it’s an experience you shouldn’t miss when in Rio.

The guru was professional and she tried to be entertaining however Rio downtown has not many things to show so I would not recommend to invest 3 hours on that unless you are some kind of Brazilian history addicted. The recommended price (100 reais each or more) is not in line with the quality of the experience in my opinion.

It was a great experience! It was perfect to to do it on our first day in Rio. We learned so much about Rio and Brazilian history in a comprehensive way and discovered much more we could see on our own. We met nice people, who became our companions for the rest if the day.

We all really enjoyed this tour. Nina (our guide) was informative and helpful, answering any questions we all raised. If you’re visiting Rio this tour is a must. It sets the history and tone of this city and addresses head-on the plight of those transported as slaves, the affect they had on Brazilian culture and the impact that still exists on their ancestors.

We have done several other tours in Rio, but this one was one of the best! We appreciated learning a lot about black culture in Brazil and hearing about linkages to Angola and other African countries. The guide had a great way of telling stories and brought a critical perspective. Would definitely recommend!

Bruno was a tremendous guide, mixing fun and beautiful traditions with unsettling facts about the history of slavery and racism in Brazil. You might also be in for some musical treats :) His tone was optimistic, the pace was engaging and my only regret is doing the tour on my last day in Rio, and not being able to follow through with his many wonderful suggestions. Wholeheartedly recommended!
