Hi! I'm Ismael. I am 42 years old and I come from the island of Menorca. I have diplomes of Art History in Palma de Mallorca and Fine arts in Barcelona. I've been in Berlin for 13 years. And although I came because I am interested in art and to develop myself as an artist, I began to be interested in the history of this city. Since then I have not stopped exploring its monuments and corners. I'm also passionate about modern Art, specially Street Art. In my spare time I like to prepare and make graffiti. Even teach people some techniques for their Initiation.

About the Tour

This tour will show you the most ALTERNATIVE neighbourhood in Berlin, where the post-punk rock era of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave and Depeche Mode - among others -created an alternative and counter culture atmosphere that may still be appreciated today.

A neighbourhood full of artists, students and the unemployed. Also known as the Turkish quarter. There are tons of cafés and bars with a feel of simplicity and a beauty that has become very fashionable in European cities.

The tour starts at the Oranienstraße, the most neuralgic street in the neighbourhood, and after a brief historical introduction we will see the murals of Roa (of international fame) and the "Astronaut" of Victor Ash, Graffiti, inspired by David Bowie's eternal classic, Space Oddity. And we will meet the "Berliner Kidz", a group of graffiti artists famous for their messages to the society.

Also you will lern the origen and evolution of Street Art and the different techniques.

On our way to the Wall we will walk around the cultural centre of Bethanien, and then during the journey of almost one kilometre of Berlin Wall (EAST SIDE GALLERY) we will hear some stories about the Cold War, art and life in Kreuzberg.

Back to the neighbourhood, we will cross the Oberbaumbrücke. The most fascinating bridge in Berlin, and I will show you where the Ramones Museum is, and also one of the best hamburger restaurants in Berlin. And of course 5 spectacular graffiti: Gameos, BLU, Natalia Rak... We will then walk through the Gorkitzer Park and discover its secrets.

To finish, I will leave you in our lovely Paul Linke-Ufer. From there I will recommend restaurants, bars or any distraction that you wish.

Meeting point: Open in Google Maps

How to find me: Outside the entrance of the café called "Bateau Ivre".

The tour was great! We were lucky that we are been the only ones taking the tour! We are glad it wasn’t canceled! Ismael has a great knowledge about all the street art and even though we are from Berlin, he showed us things we didn’t know before. Really a great tour!

Response from Ismael
Thank you very much!. It was great for me too.

El arte callejero cobra vida gracias a Ismael, que conoce el transfondo y el efecto de la idiosincrasia berlinesa en el arte callejero (y viceversa). Muy recomendable.

Response from Ismael
Gracias, todo un placer
