Essential Free Tour of Leuven
Tour description
Leuven, capital of the province of Flemish Brabant, is the city where leisure and study come together to create one of the busiest university environments in Belgium. On this tour I will share with you a bit of history, art and anecdotes that run through the streets of the “ City of students and nuns ”.
The tour starts at the great Ladeuzaplein square, in front of the Leuven University Library , where we will make a short introduction to the city of Leuven. We will approach the Chapel of Leo XIII to delve into one of the origins of university life. We will visit the Sint-Donatuspark with some of the last vestiges of the medieval ruins of the city.
Approaching the bustle of the city, we will visit the Baroque Church of St. Michael ( Sint-Michielskerk ). A short stop in front of the University Rectorate to talk about the origins of KU Leuven. The tour continues through the Great Square ( Grote Markt ) from which you can see the Church of St. Peter ( Sint-Pieterskerk ) and the jewel of the city, its Gothic-style Town Hall that has become the icon par excellence of Leuven. .
We continue through the famous square, the main leisure destination for young university students, Oude Markt . Finally, we will end the tour in one of the most incredible and magical corners of the city, the Great Beguinage ( Groot Begijnhof ).
