Tour description
🌟 Discover Aveiro with Paulinho – Tour through the Historic Center 🌟
Join me on a unique tour through the heart of Aveiro and let yourself be guided by someone who knows every corner of this magical city! I'm a local guide, born and raised in Aveiro, and I'll show you secrets that only someone from here can know, mixing history, curiosities, and fun moments that will make your visit an unforgettable experience.
The tour will begin at the Obelisk of Liberty, a tribute to the illustrious Aveiro native, José Estêvão. In a relaxed and fun atmosphere, we will walk to the central canal to discover why Aveiro is known as the Venice of Portugal, admiring the typical Moliceiro boats, with their unique and colorful designs, and the Mercanteis, which were formerly used for local trade and are now entirely dedicated to tourism.
During the walk, you'll discover the diverse designs of the Portuguese paving stones and their meanings. We'll visit the Town Hall and the Church of Santa Casa da Misericordia, where you can admire its beautiful tiles and understand their historical significance. On Rua Direita, we'll visit the two oldest shops selling Ovos Moles, Aveiro's typical sweet, and admire the tile murals that decorate the street.
We'll continue to the Aveiro Forum, once considered the largest open-air shopping center in Europe, and see the Old Captaincy and several buildings representing the Art Nouveau style, characteristic of the city. Among the tour's highlights, we'll sample the second typical sweet, Tripa de Aveiro, and visit the Friendship Bridge, a colorful bridge steeped in romantic sentiment.
Back in the historic center, we will understand once again why Aveiro is called the “Venice of Portugal”, exploring old neighborhoods like the “Lados do Cagaréus”, formerly a humble area and now part of the city's cultural heritage.
We'll also visit the city's bohemian center, where over 15,000 students gather in bars and nightclubs, in the famous Praça do Peixe. Then, we'll go to Cais dos Botirões, where you can take the most beautiful photo of Aveiro, and I'll show you some tricks for getting the best Instagram shots.
The Circular Bridge will dazzle you, not only for its significance, but also for its reflection in the water, which provides a perfect setting for stunning photographs.
Finally, we will arrive at the Chapel of São Gonçalinho, patron saint of the coastal neighborhood, protagonist of the most fun (and “dangerous”) festival in the city, where tradition dictates that the cavacas are thrown from the top towards those waiting below.
We will end up at Largo da Praça do Peixe, the epicenter of student parties and the bohemian atmosphere, from where you can explore the city at your own pace.
✨ At all times, I assure you that I have several surprises and unique details that will make your visit to Aveiro unforgettable, full of stories, fun and moments that only a local guide can offer.
