During the itinerary, we will visit some of the most interesting places that will help us get to know this beautiful city in more detail: Starting point:
1.- Marktplatz
The Marktplatz is the historical heart of Aachen, a lively place. Here you can admire the Aachen Town Hall (Rathaus), a majestic Gothic building that has witnessed many imperial coronations.
2,-.Aachen Cathedral (Aachener Dom)
This cathedral is one of Germany's most important monuments, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built by Charlemagne and is a fascinating mix of architectural styles, from Romanesque to Gothic.
3,-.The Money Fountain
You can see this peculiar fountain that depicts several characters who seem to be arguing or chatting, a display of the city's satirical style.
4,-The Elisenbrunnen,
a historic thermal spring that is still active. This area also has a beautiful garden (Elisengarten) where you can take a short walk. The fountain is famous for its thermal water and its historical importance as a spa.
5,-Klenkes Monument
Over time, the Klenkes gesture has evolved to become a symbol of local identity, used by the inhabitants of Aachen (called "Öcher") to recognize each other, especially when they are outside the city. By raising the little finger, citizens make a kind of greeting or identification as "one of Aachen." It is an informal and fun way to show pride in being from this city and, for locals, it has a deep sense of belonging and community.
6-. Bahkauv Statue
The Bahkauv is described as a kind of aquatic monster, with an appearance that combines features of various animals. It is often depicted as a grotesque creature, with the body of a calf or a boar, and in some versions, it has a large mouth with sharp fangs. It lives in the streams and fountains of Aachen, especially near the thermal waters, which are very characteristic of the city.
7.- Doll Fountain.
The Doll Fountain is not only a modern monument but also reflects important aspects of Aachen's identity. Like other public artworks in the city, this fountain helps narrate Aachen's history in an accessible and fun way. It is a reflection of the city's cheerful and open character, as well as its rich historical and cultural tradition.
8.- Prinnten Cookies
Over time, the Aachener Printen have become a true symbol of the city and a highly appreciated specialty not only in Germany but also in other countries. Today, Printen have a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), which means that only Printen made in the Aachen region can bear this name, ensuring their authenticity.
Of course, during the itinerary, I will be happy to answer any questions, inquiries, or curiosities...
Aachen is a city to be discovered, and I would love for you to take away a beautiful memory.
