My last full time teaching job was as the director of an international school in Cambodia but I've taught in Australia, the USA, Morocco, Thailand, Kenya, and Bangladesh too. I'm still a fully qualified teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience in English, outdoor education, and pastoral care. I'm always happy to walk and share my knowledge of North Cornwall with anyone who is interested in discovering this magical corner of England.

Intrigued by hidden coves, shipwreck secrets, and a touch of wartime history? Join our exhilarating walking tour and unravel the captivating stories of the Camel Estuary!

Our adventure begins:

  • Tubestation Cafe Launchpad: Fuel up with a coffee at the Tubestation cafe before embarking on a journey through time.
  • Notorious Estuary & Doom Bar: Witness the entrance to the Camel Estuary, a legendary waterway with a powerful reputation. Learn the tale of the infamous Doom Bar and how it inspired a local brew.
  • Underwater Mysteries: Become a shipwreck sleuth! Get the insider scoop on local wrecks and how the green flecks in the slate hint at Greenaway's unique past.
  • Bay of Transformation: Discover how Big Cave Bay morphed into Big Cake Bay (and maybe even get a taste of the legend behind it!). Uncover the secrets of Daymer Bay's petrified slumber during the last Ice Age.
  • Goblins' Glittering Riches: Hike towards a hidden cave rumored to hold "Goblins' Gold." Is it a myth or a treasure waiting to be unearthed?
  • WWII Echoes in the Sand: Witness rapidly eroding sand dunes revealing remnants of Cornwall's wartime defenses. Learn how the Camel Estuary's channel has dramatically shifted its sandbars over time.
  • Time Team's Cornish Odyssey: Follow in the footsteps of Channel 4's Time Team as they unearthed long-lost connections between Cornwall and the mystical Constantinople.
  • St Enodoc's Buried Secrets: Stroll the world-famous golf course, leading us to the once-buried church of St Enodoc. Here, we'll be transported by poems from Sir John Betjeman.
  • Betjeman's Enchanting Woods: Our return path winds through Sir John Betjeman's house and magical woods, where secret mines hint at Polzeath's hidden past.

Convenience at your Doorstep: Staying at the St. Moritz Hotel or The Point? We offer pick-up and drop-off options for your comfort.

This circular tour is more than just a walk; it's a captivating journey through time and legend! Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to explore the magic of the Camel Estuary.

I will be inside the Tubestation cafe near the woodburning stove if it is winter and it is on. If the cafe is closed for any reason I will be by the front door up the steps! People know me there so just ask for Bill! It's a great place to hang out and there are toilets there too. You'll find the cafe just above Polzeath Beach carpark
