RETREAT: The Creole Aristocracy.
The tour lasts 2 hours
Available in Spanish
Description
Retiro is the neighborhood where the Buenos Aires aristocracy took refuge after the yellow fever of 1871: stations that resemble Victorian iron cathedrals and mansions that rival the luxury of the castles of the Loire. I invite you to explore it with me and unravel the stories of pride, power, and tragedy behind its most imposing facades.
What we will discover:
Palacio Paz and Palacio San Martín: jewels of French academicism that defined the "Paris of America"
Kavanagh Building: the Art Deco skyscraper born from a romantic spite and turned into a legend
Retiro Station and Monumental Tower: iron and glass brought from London
San Martín Square and Malvinas Cenotaph: a space for memory and reflection
And as always, we share some mate along the way to chat about our identity (remember to request it free of charge 2 hours in advance, so I can arrive fully prepared).

Gabriel: Chronicles and Secrets of Buenos Aires History Professor | Journalist | Cultural Communicator Hello! I'm Gabriel, and my mission is to help you stop being a spectator and become a protagonist in Buenos Aires' history. With decades dedicated to teaching, I understand Buenos Aires not as a simple map of streets, but as a living book full of political, social, and architectural layers waiting to be deciphered. Why discover the city with me? Academic Rigor: As a History Professor, my approach goes beyond superficial anecdotes; I invite you to understand the "why" behind our great works, from French academicism to the Art Deco that defines our skyline. Professional Narrative: My experience as a journalist and radio broadcaster allows me to narrate the city with an agile, clear, and engaging style, transforming every walk into a vibrant chronicle. Heritage Specialist: I am passionate about historic districts. My tours are the result of years of research into the elite architecture and social evolution of our capital. My Cultural Tours: Avenida de Mayo: The political and social heart of Buenos Aires, an axis of European architecture and historic cafes. Retiro: The "Creole Aristocracy"; a journey to the splendor of the Paris of America and its imposing palaces. San Telmo: Where tango was born; a tour through the historic center, its alleyways, and the bohemian soul of the city. San Nicolás: Echoes of History; a detailed circuit of the key points where our civic identity was born and the flag was raised. Theatrical Symphony (In Duo with Griselda): A sensory immersion through the world capital of theater, fusing historical rigor with a poetic perspective.
