Heart of the Lanna Kingdom: The Essential Chiang Mai Old City Walk

The tour lasts 2 hours and 45 minutes
Available in English

Description

Wander through the soul of ancient Chiang Mai — where historic red brick walls whisper centuries of Lanna stories, massive ancient ruins touch the sky, and every quiet alley holds a piece of history. This intimate walking experience takes you inside the historic moat, beyond the busy traffic, to explore the city's most beautifully preserved temples and monuments. We will blend Lanna heritage, royal legends, and local life into one unforgettable journey through the "New City" that is over 700 years old.

Our Journey Highlights
The Gateway to the Past (Tha Phae Gate) — We begin at the iconic red brick walls of Tha Phae Gate, the historic entrance to the old Lanna capital. Feel the energy of the city and learn how these walls protected the kingdom centuries ago.
The Great Earthquake Ruin (Wat Chedi Luang) — Stand in awe before the massive, ancient brick stupa that once
dominated the skyline before a 16th-century earthquake. Discover the spiritual heart of the city and the original home of the Emerald Buddha.
C The Founding Fathers (Three Kings Monument) — We walk to the very center of the old city to meet the three kings who built Chiang Mai. Learn the legends, the city planning secrets, and the history behind the founding of this beautiful kingdom.
D The Golden Lanna Masterpiece (Wat Phra Singh) — Experience the breathtaking beauty of classic Lanna architecture. With its gleaming golden stupa and intricate wood carvings, this is one of Northern Thailand's most revered temples.
E A Taste of the North (Ending point) — We conclude our journey near SP Chicken (a legendary Michelin Bib Gourmand eatery). I'll point you to the best local spots so you can reward your walking effort with some amazing Northern food!
