Well where do I start, Berlin has been on my bucket list for years and I eventually got the opportunity to visit. I booked the walking tour for my first day. Martin was easy to spot at the meeting point, as he is head and shoulders above the crowd. Welcomed with a friendly smile and a warm greeting I felt at ease from the get go. His English is excellent so there is no need to worry about trying to understand what is being said. Martins tour was very insightful and interesting, especially the personal family stories and history. It real brought the surroundings and events to life, which gave me greater understanding of what it must have been like living during this time. Food tasting was a particular highlight. Who knew German food could be so scrumptious. With the knowledge I've gained from Martins real life tour I now feel equip to navigate my way around the wonderful city of Berlin. What a fantastic walking tour, Martin made us feel comfortable right from the start. Martin was very knowledgeable and personable throughout, the history of his family was fascinating. Lots of information was provided, but not too much that it felt like a history lesson. The traditional food tasting was a fabulous touch - for us this made the tour one of the best we’ve been on. I did this tour with a friend and we learnt so much! Although it was a small tour, it felt very well organised and personal: we could ask questions at any time. Martin was very knowledgeable and we could tell that he was passionate about his city. At each stop he told us a little bit of history and then a family story that made it feel much realer. Our highlight was the tastings of East German products that are still around today - you'd never know their history of you saw them in the supermarket. If you are looking for an interesting tour led by a real East Berliner then do this one!
