This tour is designed as a key to understanding the city : a starting point for understanding Berlin and orienting yourself among its neighborhoods, its monuments and its many identities.

Because Berlin is not a city you understand at first glance.

Unlike all other European capitals, here history isn't limited to ancient monuments: it's written in the city's streets, squares, and buildings. Often, it's written in the very things that are no longer there , destroyed by the Second World War or the Wall, and present today in the form of symbols, metaphors, and references.

To truly understand Berlin you have to learn to read the city .

On this tour we will cross the heart of the capital, retracing 150 years of transformation : from 19th-century Berlin and the Industrial Revolution to the restless capital of the Roaring Twenties, up to the city divided by the Wall during the Cold War.

We will walk among the places where these events actually happened, observing how history has shaped the city we see today.

Meeting point:

Washington Square 3

The meeting point is 15 minutes before the tour starts. We meet at Washingtonplatz 3, in front of Berlin's main train station (Hauptbahnhof). The exact meeting point is in front of the glass building with the "CUBE" sign on it, on the square. The main train station has several exits: simply follow the signs to Washingtonplatz.
