• Free tour: the secrets of Lima's historic centre and Chinatown

I will show you Lima in reverse order to my colleagues, starting with the place where the history of the city of Lima began: next to the statue of Francisco Pizarro in the Plaza de Armas. I will explain the buildings surrounding it and then continue along an alleyway that leads to a monument in honour of the last Inca chief of the region. Next, we will see the Church of Saint Dominic, one of the most beautiful houses from the colonial era, and the old post office of Lima. We will continue towards the river of Lima: the Rimac River and the old train station. We will walk along a beautiful street to see the remains of the wall that surrounded the city of Lima during the colonial era and the façade of the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi.

The tour continues after crossing a wide avenue to see the Congress of the Republic and stroll through Chinatown. On the way back, we will see one of the most beautiful balconies in Lima. We will continue straight on to walk along the pedestrian street (Jirón de la Unión), see the Church of La Merced and arrive at San Martín Square to end our morning tour. This square was built in honour of Argentine General Don José de San Martín for making Peru independent from the Spanish kingdom.

Thus, in two and a half hours, we will visit old Lima, taking a historical tour from its foundation as a capital city by Pizarro to its existence as an independent country since the arrival of General San Martín.

Je vous montrerai Lima en sens inverse que mes collègues, en commençant par l’endroit où a commencé l’histoire de la ville de Lima: à côté de la statue de Francisco Pizarro sur la Place des Armes. Explication sur les constructions qui l’entourent pour continuer par une ruelle qui débouche sur un monument en honneur du dernier chef inca de la région. Ensuite, vue sur l’église de Saint Dominique, sur une des plus belles maisons de l’époque coloniale et sur l’ancienne poste de Lima. Continuation vers le fleuve de Lima : le fleuve Rimac et vers l’ancienne gare. Nous marcherons par une belle rue pour voir les restes de la muraille qui entourait la ville de Lima à l’époque coloniale et la façade de l’église de Saint François d’Assise. 

La visite continue après avoir traversée une large avenue pour voir le Congrès de la République et se promener par le quartier chinois. Au retour, nous verrons un des plus beaux balcons de Lima. Nous continuerons tout droit pour parcourir la rue piétonne (le Jirón de la Unión) voir l’Eglise de la Merced et arriver sur la Place San Martín pour donner fin à notre visite de la matinée. Cette place a été construite en honneur du Général argentin Don José de San Martín pour rendre le Pérou indépendant du royaume espagnol. 

Ainsi, nous visiterons en deux heures et demie la vieille Lima en faisant une boucle historique depuis sa fondation comme capitale avec Pizarro jusqu’à son existence comme pays indépendant depuis l’arrivée du général San Martín.
