Tour description
You will arrive at a walled city that was born in 1680 under the Portuguese flag, founded with a clear strategic purpose: to monitor the movements of the Spanish ships that sailed through the Río de la Plata towards Buenos Aires, in search of gold, silver and precious stones.
Those first envoys—soldiers, colonists, and adventurers—laboriously built a small fortress that, over time, became a battleground between two empires. Even today, as you walk its streets, you can imagine life in that era, when the cobblestones bore witness to the passage of soldiers, merchants, and smugglers.
You'll discover the humble colonial buildings, with their handmade tile roofs, wrought-iron lanterns, and cobblestone streets with still-functioning natural drainage systems. All this within a city frozen in time, magical and authentic, that preserves its military gate, drawbridge, and gunboats—silent guardians of more than three centuries of history.
