From London Bridge to Rotherhithe - How England crowned itself a world power thanks to the Thames

London has much more to offer than Westminster and Buckingham Palace – various ruling dynasties over the past centuries not only left their mark on the city's streets and alleyways, but also helped London and the entire kingdom achieve their status as a world power. However, one of the most important factors for the empire's economic, political, and military success has hardly changed – the Thames.

On this tour (designed especially for the spring and summer months), we'll learn how the River Thames has shaped the lives of Londoners – from the Romans and Vikings through the Stuarts and Tudors to the present day. We begin our walk at London Bridge, passing Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, before venturing into the often-forgotten and less touristy areas east of the city. In Bermondsey and Rotherhithe, we'll discover more about the trading posts and shipbuilding companies that fueled the prosperity of the city in the west.

This tour is for anyone who wants to get to know London better, beyond the tourist hotspots, and is interested in the fascinating, often forgotten stories of the metropolis. The group size is also deliberately kept small so that we can make spontaneous detours or take a short break at a pub! ;-)

The tour lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes

Hi everyone, I‘m Rafael! I‘m originally from Switzerland and I naturally love being outdoors. Since mountains and hiking trails are hard to find in the UK, I started to explore the City walking or riding my bike and fell in love with the quirky history that seems to be embedded in every corner of London!
