Checkpoint Charlie is the most emblematic place of the divided city.
Our journey into the heart of East Berlin begins right here, in the place where the division of the city was played out before the world.
This tour will take us beyond the most familiar images of the Cold War. We'll delve into everyday life in the GDR, discussing daily life in East Germany, the state's control, between Stasi opposition and propaganda, and the lives of ordinary people.
Crossing the city center we will follow the traces that remain today of socialist Berlin, between architecture and urban transformations.
The tour concludes at the Palace of Tears (Tränenpalast), one of the most poignant places in divided Berlin, where family and friends said goodbye before parting ways across the border. Here, you can visit the museum for free, allowing you to see up close documents, objects, and testimonies related to the topics covered during the tour. The visit is self-guided, optional, and takes about half an hour.
