Checkpoint Charlie is the most emblematic place of the divided city.
Right here begins our journey into the heart of East Berlin, in the place where the division of the city was staged in front of the world.
This tour will take us beyond the most well-known images of the Cold War. We will delve into the daily life of the GDR, talk about everyday life in East Germany, the control exercised by the State, between StaSi oppression and propaganda, and the lives of ordinary people.
Crossing the city center, we will follow the traces that remain today of socialist Berlin, between architecture and urban transformations.
The route concludes at the Palace of Tears (Tränenpalast), one of the most intense places of divided Berlin, where family and friends said goodbye before separating across the border. Here, it is possible to visit the museum for free, which allows you to see up close documents, objects, and testimonies related to the themes discussed during the tour. The visit is self-guided, optional, and takes about half an hour.
