The REAL Rocinha: Walking Favela Tour with Local Cousins
The tour lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes
Available in English and Portuguese
Description
Most Rocinha tours are run by companies that have never lived here. Ours isn't.
I'm Herbert, and I run this tour with my cousin. We were both born and raised right here, in the heart of Rocinha. This isn't a stop on somebody else's route, it's where we grew up, and where our families still live.
Forget the "human zoo" tours from big agencies. Walk with us as our guests, not spectators, and see the real culture, the resilience, and the soul of our community.
What we'll explore:
The Top: We start at the highest point in Rocinha for breathtaking views of Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf.
Hidden Alleys (Becos): Narrow paths that only locals know how to walk safely.
Culture & Economy: Street art, our "organic architecture", and the everyday commerce that keeps the community running.
Street Food: Optional stops for authentic açaí or local snacks.
Important info & extra costs:
100% safe: as locals, your safety is our priority, always.
Extra costs: bring R$30 in cash. This covers the official Community Check-in fee for "Favela Turismo" plus a moto-taxi or van ride to the top.
Tip-based: there's no fixed price. Most guests on this tour give somewhere between €30-50 per person based on what the experience was worth to them — but it's entirely up to you (cash, Revolut, or card).
Come walk with the cousins!
