Breathe the Soul of Old Bari - Free tour
Our free walking tour will begin in the heart of the new city, near the Petruzzelli Theatre, the largest theatre in Bari and one of the most important in Italy. Here, the guide will introduce the history of the city before taking you to the charming old town.
We will cross Piazza del Ferrarese, one of the liveliest squares in Bari, to reach Piazza Mercantile, the historic center of the city's social and commercial life. We will admire the Column of Justice, which was once used to punish insolvent debtors.
We will proceed to the Basilica of Saint Nicholas, a religious symbol of the city and a magnificent example of Apulian Romanesque architecture, which houses the relics of the saint venerated by both Catholics and Orthodox. After a brief internal visit, we will continue to the Cathedral of Saint Sabinus, famous for the phenomenon of the summer solstice.
We will then stop in front of the majestic Swabian Castle, with Norman walls reinforced by Frederick II, before entering the authentic alleys of Bari Vecchia. Here, we will discover the famous Orecchiette Street, where Bari women still make fresh pasta by hand today.
During the tour, the guide will be happy to suggest the best places to enjoy a coffee or local specialties.
After about two hours, the free tour will end near Via Sparano, leaving you time to continue exploring on your own or relax in the surroundings.
An ideal experience to discover the history, traditions, and authentic atmosphere of Bari!
