Croix-Rousse: the other hill - viewpoints, local life, and Lyonnaise essence

The tour lasts 2 hours
Available in Spanish

Description

Join this tour of the Croix-Rousse, the mythical "colline qui travaille" (the working hill), the authentic soul of Lyon. I am Diego, a resident of this neighborhood. I will take you on a journey that combines workers' history, the best views of Lyon, and the rebellious spirit that defines the Croix-Rousse. Ideal for those who want to know Lyon beyond the tourist spots.

During the tour, we will descend from the Plateau to the Pentes, passing by:

  • La Place de la Croix-Rousse, the heart of the neighborhood
  • Mur des Canuts, the largest mural in Europe
  • The Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse, where we will see one of the most authentic markets in Lyon
  • Lookouts with panoramic views
  • The mythical Cour des Voraces and its traboules
  • Pedestrian streets like the Montée de la Grande-Côte
  • The unique architecture of the canuts and the Roman Amphitheater

A walk that connects Roman Lyon with the 19th-century working-class Lyon and today's bohemian neighborhood. A tour full of anecdotes, impressive views, and a lot of history.

Hi, I'm Diego. I'm a cultural journalist, born in Mexico, and after living in Madrid for three years, I decided to move to Lyon to continue experiencing European history firsthand. And also... for love. At the end of the day, my job is to research and write stories, which is why I find it hard to see this city as just a list of dates or monuments. For me, Lyon is best understood through its stories, medieval legends, and the secrets hidden in its streets and famous traboules. On my tours, you won't find a boring monologue of memorized facts. My idea is that we walk, talk, and you discover the city as if a friend who's lived here for a while and loves what they do were showing it to you. See you on the streets!

Meeting point:Place de la Croix-RousseWe will meet at Place de la Croix-Rousse, right in front of the statue of Joseph-Marie Jacquard. You can't miss it: the square is located exactly at the exit of the Croix-Rousse Metro station (Line C). To help you spot me, I'll be wearing a red cap and holding an iPad. Impossible to miss me!Open in Google Maps
