If you want to learn about Coimbra's rich history, the best way is to go for a city walk with the guide. I booked the 3 hours tour with Joao and walked with a small group through the old streets of Coimbra. It was relaxing and very pleasant. Visited the oldest university of Portugal located on the top of the city and enjoyed the beautiful scenery from up there. I recommend the tour for anyone who is interested to find more about the history of Portugal and its first capital city, Coimbra.

I booked last minute to do this solo as my husband hurt his knee, so we had to cancel our original plans. I was surprised to be the only person on the tour - it was a bit strange to start, but Igor and I soon got into a good rhythm of walking and talking. He's a nice guy with good English who has obviously loves Coimbra and has a lot of stories about the city's history - as well as some about more current events. I enjoyed the (downhill!) walk, got to see parts of Coimbra I hadn't yet had the chance to explore, and learnt some stories to regale my husband with! Recommended.
