Thomas zog vor acht Jahren nach Hiroshima, nachdem er sich in die Stadt und seine zukünftige Frau verliebt hatte. Kennengelernt haben sie sich in einem 7-Eleven, wo sie bei einer kleinen Verlosung ein Brot gewonnen hatte. Da sie es nicht brauchte, schenkte sie es ihm, und mit diesem einfachen Moment begann ihre Geschichte. Später heirateten sie in einer Bäckerei in Hiroshimas Hauptstraße, einem Ort, den sie noch heute gemeinsam besuchen, weil er ihnen sehr am Herzen liegt. In seiner Freizeit bildet sich Thomas gerne weiter. Er hat die japanische Kochprüfung bestanden und bereitet sich nun auf die japanische Sake-Zertifizierung vor, während er gleichzeitig eine staatliche Zulassung als Fremdenführer anstrebt. Als Tourismusbotschafter von Hiroshima ist es ihm eine Ehre, die bewegte Geschichte der Stadt und den Charme seines Zuhauses mit anderen zu teilen.
I had a great time on the tour with Thomas. Walking around the city with him was easy and really enjoyable. He went beyond my expectations and has a great personality. If you want to experience Hiroshima from a local perspective, I definitely recommend him. He also took us to a delicious and affordable place to eat. He was always very kind and answered all our questions with lots of helpful information. I’m sure he can also recommend great places to visit and eat even outside Hiroshima.

This was such a unique way to sample the speciality of Hiroshima. Having tasted the version from Osaka, I now prefer the Hiroshima version more. Thomas was very knowledgeable and shared other significant historical events as well, shifting our conversation from food, culture to history. It was a perfect introduction to Hiroshima. Don’t miss out on this food tour!
