Thomas moved to Hiroshima eight years ago after falling in love with both the city and the woman who would become his wife. They first met in a 7-Eleven, where she won a loaf of bread in a small lottery. She didn’t need it, so she gave it to him, and from that simple moment their story began. They later married in a bakery on Hiroshima’s main street, a place they still visit together because it holds a special place in their hearts.
In his spare time, Thomas enjoys studying for different qualifications. He has passed the Japanese national cooking exam and is now preparing for the Japanese sake certification while working toward becoming a nationally licensed guide. As a Hiroshima tourism ambassador, he is honored to share the city’s complex history and the charm of the place he is proud to call home.
If you're considering this tour, stop thinking and just book it! Thomas was absolutely outstanding. His knowledge of Hiroshima, Japanese history, and culture is incredibly impressive, but what makes the experience truly special is the passion he brings to every story he tells. You can immediately feel that his love for Japan is genuine and deeply personal. Beyond the fascinating history and the amazing okonomiyaki experience, I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations about Japan, its culture, its people, and everyday life. Thomas has a rare ability to make you feel like you're exploring the city with a knowledgeable friend rather than simply following a guide. His personal journey and connection to Japan add a unique dimension to the tour, making every stop meaningful and memorable. He answered every question with enthusiasm, shared wonderful local insights, and created an experience that felt authentic from beginning to end. This was one of the highlights of my time in Hiroshima. If you want great food, fascinating history, genuine cultural insights, and an unforgettable guide, Thomas is the person you're looking for.
Thomas was most welcoming and had a great knowledge of the history and culture of Hiroshima. A very entertaining experience
Would def recommend this one. Learned a bunch of stuff about the history of Hiroshima and okonomiyaki while being thoroughly entertained throughout. It's very apparent that Thomas is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he does making this an incredible experience. Also the food was amazing. Doubt I would have been able to find a place this good (and good value!) without the benefit of an experienced local like Thomas. And apologies to Osaka, but after this I'm always going for Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki.
