Stone Town is the historical centre of Zanzibar City, the capital of the Zanzibar archipelago.
As a primary trading post on the spice, silk and slave trade routes for over a millennium, Stone Town has been a unique meeting place, blending African, Indian, Arabian and European cultures. It isone of the few remaining ancient towns in Africa.
It’s beauty, and historical value has earned it a well-deserved place on the UNESCO world heritage list.
Not only is this city visually beautiful, with old colonial buildings and exquisitely carved Zanzibari doorways, but your senses will be overwhelmed with the scent of the sea and spice and the calls to prayer echoing from the minarets.
Ahmad was a very good guide with alot of knowledge of the towns and islands history. I really recommend his guided tour.
Tuvimos un muy buen recorrido con Ahmad. Nos llevo por los lugares mas icónicos de Zanzibar. Es muy entendido de toda la historia de la isla y de Tanzania. Estuvo siempre dispuesto a responder todas nuestras dudas. Totalmente recomendado
Nice Guy, nice guided tour! Ahmed knows a lot and gave us interesting information about stone town, the culture, the buildings and the history of Zanzibar. The tour included all must seen points in stone town.
Ahmad was such a wonderful guide and I thoroughly enjoyed his walking tour of Zanzibar. Due to a last-minute issue at the hotel it took us 30 minutes extra to reach the location during which he patiently waited for us. After that he took his time to tell us stories about the history of Zanzibar before walking us to the main sites and gave us ample time to look around. He pointed out little details such as the carving on the doors and told us about their meanings. Our visit of the market was super interesting too and we took our time to observe and buy stuff before moving on. The alleyways of Zanzibar are so beautiful and reminded me of my time in Rome and Florence. Ahmad spent far longer with us than the 2.5 hrs promised and left us at a wonderful restaurant where we could eat local food. He also communicated with our driver to tell him where to pick us up from because it was easier for him to explain than us. Overall, I loved the walk and would highly recommend it to everyone. Ahmad’s storytelling and service gets a 11 on 10 from me!
