Oxford University & Historic Colleges Walking Tour

  • 2 hours
  • English

Description

Discover Oxford through the eyes of a historian and local guide.

Join me for a small-group walking tour (maximum 5 guests) through the heart of Oxford, where centuries of history meet vibrant student life and modern university culture.

Together, we'll explore:

Over 1,000 years of Oxford's history

Student life, traditions and rivalries

Stories of remarkable people such as Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Oscar Wilde and Stephen Hawking

Famous colleges, historic buildings and their fascinating stories

Hidden corners and places many visitors miss

Please note: The tour does not include entry inside the colleges. However, I'll be happy to recommend colleges that offer public visiting hours and explain how and when you can visit them during your stay in Oxford.

As a professional historian with more than 10 years of guiding experience, I love bringing history to life through stories rather than simply listing dates and facts. I also enjoy getting to know my guests and sharing recommendations for interesting places to eat, drink and explore.

My aim is for you to experience Oxford not just as a visitor, but through the eyes of someone who lives here and loves the city.

Small group — maximum 5 guests.

There is no fixed price to join. You are welcome to contribute at the end according to your enjoyment and budget. A contribution of around £15–£20 per person is greatly appreciated.

Hello! My name is Iryna, and I'm a professional historian and passionate tour guide. Originally from Ukraine, I have over 10 years of experience leading cultural and historical tours. After moving to Oxford, I fell in love with this remarkable city and its incredible stories. Today, I enjoy sharing its history, traditions, and hidden corners with visitors from around the world. My tours are based on storytelling rather than simply memorising dates. I love connecting famous places with the people who lived, studied, and changed the world here—from medieval scholars to writers like J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, scientists, philosophers, and modern Oxford students. I believe history becomes unforgettable when it is told through real lives, humour, and fascinating details. Whether you're visiting Oxford for the first time or returning to discover more, I hope you'll leave feeling inspired by this extraordinary city. I look forward to welcoming you to Oxford! 🎓 Professional historian (Master's degree in History) 🏛️ 10+ years of guiding experience 🌍 Tours in English and Ukrainian 📖 Passionate about Oxford's history, traditions, literature, and student life ⭐ Friendly, small-group experience
