Free tour of the Macarena neighborhood

The Macarena neighborhood is a blend of tradition and modernity and is undoubtedly one of Seville's most picturesque neighborhoods . A neighborhood that is constantly being renovated.

We'll begin at the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas (Five Wounds Hospital)—now the Parliament of Andalusia—a beautiful place steeped in stories like the ghost of Sister Ùrsula, or the stories of those mothers who died well. And without forgetting the fascinating legend surrounding the origins of the Virgin of Hope Macarena and a suitcase.

We will visit the Macarena Wall with its winding layout ,

Next we will enter the Basilica of Esperanza Macarena , which today remains the most praised in Seville and enjoys universal devotion.

We will have the opportunity to see the oldest churches in the city - the Churches of San Gil, Santa Marina, San Marcos... all built on the foundations of ancient Muslim mosques , and striking for preserving the old minaret and sebka panels like the Giralda.

We'll take a look at the last coal mine in Seville , a very unique spot. We'll discover the Palace of the Marquises of Algaba —now the Mudejar Art Center. We'll cross the famous Feria Street Market —the oldest market in Seville—a must-see for local produce. With luck, we'll even be able to visit the Thursday market .

We'll have "Macarena joy" in the Alameda de Hércules , one of Seville's favorite leisure areas. We'll visit another hidden gem of Seville, San Luis de los Franceses , with its Solomonic columns like Bernini's in the Vatican. And we'll make a welcome stop in Seville's Plaza de Montesión , where the old "regatonas" used to sell all kinds of products.

We won't miss the neighborhood's Corralones , places of pure craftsmanship where even trades that are almost extinct are practiced. And from there, we'll head to Plaza de Santa Isabel , considered by many to be the most beautiful in Seville , and where the house of Tomasin, the ghost Nazarene of the Santa Isabel convent, awaits us.

As if that weren't enough, we'll end up in a small Alcázar filled with the light of Seville... It's the palace where I was born, -verses by Antonio Machado-. The Palacio de las Dueñas and its beautiful gardens .

La Macarena is that neighborhood where history embraces you, flamenco invites you to a "quejío" and the tapas make you lose count... Here art is in the streets and even the saints have their charm!
