Free Tour Hidden Ghent
Tour description
If you've already explored the city's Old Town, home to its most iconic buildings and history, but are still curious to learn more about the city's hidden gems, we invite you to join our tour, which will guide you through what's not visible to the naked eye. You'll always feel that with every step you take, Ghent has more to offer its visitors.
We'll start at St. Bavo's Cathedral , then head to its sides for a unique experience. Admire the statues of the Van Eyck brothers and, before we know it, be right next to Gerard the Devil's Castle , from the 13th century, which goes completely unnoticed next to its neighboring cathedral. We'll pass by the Reep , the only part of the Scheldt River that runs through the city center. Next, we'll head to a small hidden gem , Achtersikkel, a square with a 14th-15th century tower. Speaking of hidden places, since we're in one of the most important university cities in the country, we couldn't miss a visit to Graffiti Street . On this street, you can appreciate the expression of aerosol in the hands of students or anyone who wants to leave their "talent." Among lesser-known but charming streets, we'll head to Friday Market Square , an important place of commerce in the city from ancient times to the present day. In the square, we'll be welcomed by one of the city's heroes, Jacob of Artevelde . We'll visit the popular Dulle Griet , with its peculiar and striking shoemaking tradition. We'll continue our walk, taking care not to be hit by the "grand cannon." If we make it, we'll reach the beginning of the Patershol Quarter , which, after a life of ups and downs, is now an attractive, fashionable neighborhood with its narrow streets and passageways dating back to the Middle Ages. Walking along the banks of the Lys River, we'll reach Kraanlei, a quay that has borne this name since the 16th century due to a wooden crane that has been installed there for years. It's in this charming spot in the center of Ghent where you can take the opportunity to quench your thirst in one of its many bars or taverns , culminating our interesting walk.
