Taste the Rainbow: Galeria Alameda Cali Market Tour
Hi! My name is Juan Camilo. I am a local to Cali, Colombia. I enjoy foreigners and showing my city around. I speak 3 languages and I lived in Argentina for 5 years. Countries I've been to: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Peru, USA, Uruguay. As of hobbies I enjoy playing the guitar and ukulele. I love music and languages.
Tour description
THE GASTRONOMIC HEART OF CALI: you won't find anything more flavourly authentic! Food, fruits, and everything local.
Galeria Alameda is every caleño's (person from Cali) place of choice for fresh fruits, artisanal drinks, great sea food, colorful flowers, quality souvenirs and everything local you can think of. Exotic variety characterizes this place!
Our journey consists of 5 main stops...
1. Sea food: from the pacific to the market 🍤
Cali is less than 2 hours away from the biggest colombian port in the pacific: Buenaventura. Everyday we get fresh fish and sea food brought straight from the sea to the market. Recommended: shrimp ceviche: shrimp, onion, cilantro and lemon, plus optional ketchup/mayo. Price starts at 14.000 colombian pesos a cup.
Vegans/vegetarians: optional veggie tacos available.
2. Fruits🌈taste the rainbow
Red, orange, yellow, green, white & purple. How many colors can you taste? 🍒🍊🍋🥝🥥🍇
If you're a fruit lover, this is for you. Come around and taste the best version of your favorite fruit, or adventure yourself into trying some you have never seen before. Really! Exotic fruits recommendations: anón, chachairrú, níspero, curuva, mangostino... plus the best mango you will ever taste. Approximate cost is 15.000 colombian pesos per person. You can also buy fruits to take with you!
3. Cheese🧀we love it!
Not necessarily associated to Colombia, but we do love our cheese and put it in everything, from chocolate to fruits! Come around and taste 3 varieties of our fresh cheeses: cuajada, campesino and costeño, and eat it with guava sweet as we do. Recommended tip here is 4.000 colombian pesos.
4. Flowers🌸Colombia's hidden gem
Did you know Colombia has the biggest amount of orchid varieties in the world? We export flowers to more than 80 countries around the globe. Come marvel at the quality, variety, colors and fragance of our top-class agro-export product, 2nd after coffee!
5. Souvenirs📿take some love home
Great variety of handcrafts can be found in the market. From fridge magnets to drums, hammocks to bags, hats, packed sweets, even local wine... find something to take to your friends and family back home... or for yourself!
Bonus: coffee
In case we're good with time, or if you specially love it, we can add this as a stop. There's a great coffee shop inside the market. They grow their own colombian specialty coffee, have 3 varieties, different methods... coffee lovers welcome!
Come around and experience the exotic variety and great quality Cali's central market has to offer, you won't find anywhere else!
