Carthage Tour: Echoes of the Past
Tour description
We’ll begin our tour at the Tophet, a sacred area associated with the Punic religion, where urns containing the remains of infants and animals were buried. It is believed to have been a site of offerings to the deities Tanit and Baal Hammon.
Next, we’ll visit the Punic ports—an ingenious harbor system consisting of a commercial port and a circular military port. These structures played a central role in Carthage’s prominence as a maritime power in the Mediterranean.
We’ll then explore the Magon Quarter, a former residential area that also served a defensive function. Excavations here have revealed remains of Punic houses and sections of the city wall, offering insight into Carthaginian urban planning.
Finally, we’ll head to the archaeological park of the Antonine Baths. Built during the Roman period, these baths are among the largest in Africa and provide a striking example of Roman public architecture and engineering. The site includes ruins of bathing rooms, columns, and seaside terraces.
