Tour description

Welcome to Cape Town!

We begin our journey at Bokaap museum located at71 Wale Street where we discuss the origins of the Bo-kaap. Our adventure then takes us by the Auwal Musjid which is the oldest in South Africa established in1794 .

Along the way we pass by the Noorul islam mosque est. 1834 before indulging a koesiester which is a local treat. Then walking down to the streets with all the colourful houses Chiappini street. We then make our way towards Cape Town’s renouned spice shop, Atlas, where you will smell the fragrences of spices used in authentic Cape Malay cuisine. These spices were not only used by the enslaved for themselves but introduced into the dishes prepared for colonial owners sparking a culinary fusion. No tour is complete without a visit toye Bokaap helpers garden a community initiative to feed the needy.

From here we take a walk down rose street known for the famous Bokaap deli that won best breakfast in Cape town 2 years in a row. Other interesting establishments as well.

What an authentic experience! This is a walk through Bo-Kaap with a professional guide who lives in the neighbourhood. Ilyas is clearly well known and because of this we went to places no other tour would go. I won’t spoil where as I guess he switches it depending on the day. It’s a mix of history, daily life, and the people of the neighbourhood. As a solo woman traveler I felt very safe. This was my favourite outing in Cape Town so far as it was so genuine and I learned a lot in addition to great photos. Thank you! 5*

Highly recommend this tour - it was one of our highlights in Cape Town. Ilya shared information about his community with a lot of integrity and his love for Bo Kaap was contagious. It was amazing to see the area from a local and he really added a personal touch. Incredibly memorable! Tasting the doughnuts was a highlight. Thank you!!!

Ilyas gave us an intimate tour through his community. We were welcomed to private homes and ate local food. It was a very unique and authentic experience which we highly recommend if you want to learn about history and culture of the Bo Kaap.
