I'm a 6th generation son born in the Bokaap. Our community are decendants of slaves and political exiles from the far east as a registered guide in Cape town I offer walking tours in the citybowl and bokaap sharing our communities history and culture with the world I'd love to show you around our neighborhood. I have a strong connection to the broader community. I'm a director of the bokaap tourism association and a director of Bokaap helpers garden. which is a NPO in the city focusing on community gardening. Have an intimate knowledge of Robben Island as a lived there for over 10 years too.
Great informative walking tour! We learnt so much
This tour was a very special one. It is impossible to explain in words. All I can tell is that we have learnt a lot and got very happy with all the exchange. Ilyas is such a nice person, presented us to diferent perspective which we would never know if only walk around Bo Kaap streets and the colorful houses without the tour. Thank you very much for this. Ilyas is an amazing guide. He did not only walk us through Bo-Kaap but also introduced us to various locals. Besides talking about South African/ Bo-Kaap history, he also shared so many stories about his upbringing, family, community projects etc. which made the tour even more interesting.
