Free Floating Tours in Siem Reap: Kompong Phluk Floating Village and the Magical Sunset

 Tonle Sap( Literally meaning 'Fresh River' or commonly translated as 'Great Lake') is a lake in the northwest of Cambodia. Belonging to the Mekong River system, Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and one of the most diverse and productive ecosystems in the world. It was designated as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1997 due to its high biodiversity.

For our floating tour, we are going to visit the Kompong Phluk .
Kompong Phluk is a community that largely depends on fishing for survival, primarily for shrimp, spending Cambodia's wet season (May–December) fishing.
During the dry season as the river thins due to receding water, many turn to farming to supplement their income. Tourism, which started in the village approximately 16 years ago, is also a growing part of the local economy.

"The commune has about 900 families, with a total population of around 4,000 people. It was also the site of a major naval battle between the Khmer Kingdom and the Champa Kingdom in the late 12th century.

Your journey is highly significant for the local communities. Why is it important?
