Free Walking Tour Of Cape Coast and Elmina Townships
Let's Tour Cape Coast & Elmina Townships!!
Welcome to the most authentic and immersive walking tour of Ghana's Central Region! 🌍🇬🇭
I'm Alfred — your passionate local guide born and raised in the heart of Cape Coast. I don't just show you the sights — I bring them to life with stories, history and culture that textbooks will never tell you.
🏰 CAPE COAST TOWNSHIP
Our journey begins in the historic Cape Coast township — one of Ghana's oldest and most culturally rich cities.
We walk through:
Cape Coast Castle — UNESCO World Heritage Site where millions of enslaved Africans passed through the infamous Door of No Return
Victoria Park — Cape Coast's historic central park
The First School In West Africa — the "cradle of education" in West Africa. You will stand before the Philip Quaque Boys' School (est. 1765)
Historic colonial buildings — architecture that tells the story of Ghana's past. Emintsimadze Palace. The home of King of Cape Coast.
The British Military Cemetery — the Military Cemetery (1824–1905), honoring those from the Anglo-Ashanti wars.
Fort William (Lighthouse) — offering breathtaking panoramic views of Cape Coast city and the Atlantic Ocean
Lemon Lounge Restaurant — taste authentic Ghanaian Jollof Rice and sweet, spicy Kelewele (fried plantains)
🏛 ELMINA TOWNSHIP
We then journey to the neighboring historic town of Elmina — one of West Africa's oldest settlements and home to:
Elmina Castle — West Africa's oldest European building built by the Portuguese in 1482
St. George's Castle dungeons — where the powerful story of the slave trade comes alive
Elmina fishing harbour — one of West Africa's busiest and most colorful fishing communities
Dutch Cemetery — a hidden historical gem few tourists ever discover
Elmina fishing village — meet real local fishermen, see traditional canoe building and experience authentic coastal Ghana life
Fort Jago — is a 17th-century hilltop fort located opposite Elmina Castle, offering panoramic views of the town and ocean. Originally a Portuguese chapel, it was converted by the Dutch in 1637.
