"Alleys of History and Daily Life" AL MOEZ STREET AND KHAN EL KHALILY
Tour description
Cairo is, without a doubt, one of the most vibrant cities in the East, a place where every street exudes history and tradition. Today, I invite you to explore one of its most iconic avenues, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, along with the entire Islamic Cairo region: the famous Al Moez Street.
Walking through Al Moez is like traveling back in time. It's home to the city's largest concentration of Islamic monuments: more than 22 madrasas (former schools), majestic mosques, and traditional public baths, known as hammams. Our tour begins at Bab al-Futuh, one of the imposing gates that once formed part of the capital's walls. From this point, we begin a special walk that, step by step, reveals the grandeur of Cairo's architecture and the stories hidden in every stone.
For two and a half hours, we explore its lively alleys, filled with aromas, sounds, and colors, until we reach the heart of traditional Egyptian commerce: the famous Khan el-Khalili market. Founded in 1384 AD, this bazaar, with more than six centuries of history, houses hundreds of shops offering everything from handicrafts and jewelry to spices and unique souvenirs.
Here, amidst the hustle and bustle of vendors and the timeless charm of its passageways, we conclude our walk, taking with us the unforgettable essence of Islamic Cairo.
