Tour description

Starting point: The Barraquinha Cultural Center, a place of resistance and celebration of Afro-Brazilian culture, is the ideal starting point. Housed in a former church, it is now a space for art, memory, and gatherings that reveres the ancestral heritage of Black women through the creation of the Sisterhood of Our Lady of Good Death, where the first Candomblé terreiro in Brazil was founded.
We walked through Castro Alves Square, a tribute to the "poet of the slaves," the stage for Salvador's carnivals, with the parade of Afro, percussive, and afoxés blocks, where these blocks span generations, resisting prejudice and showing where our carnival culture is born in the streets.
We arrived at the Municipal Square, where we noted the City Hall and Jail, where several leaders of the city's major revolts were imprisoned. Next to it is the Malês Revolt Hill, the site of the largest slave revolt in Brazil.
Finally, we'll visit the Escola do Olodum, a cultural and educational center for Afro-descendants, where we'll discuss the importance of Carnival in the city. After three hours, we'll conclude the guided tour at the Cross of San Francisco.
