Tour description

In this tour you will find out how the most interesting places in the city are tied with history. World War I left huge mark on Belgrade and its citizens, and all places we will visit hold unique and interesting story about it. If you are history enthusiast, or you just love to know backstory of the popular places you will see, this tour is for you.

We start at the edge of Pioneer park, to understand why pile of stones was brought from Greece to the park standing in front of the Parlament. Next stop explains role of the russian emperor Nicholas II Romanov in the survival of Serbian kingdom in WWI. We will see the house where the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia was announced - predecessor of Yugoslavia. You will learn in which places Gavrilo Princip and his friends received the weapons used in the Sarajevo assassination. At the Republic square we will find out why succession line of Karađorđević dinasty changed before the war. Finally, we go to Kalemegdan to see how the banks of Sava were defended and who were the most legendary heroes of Serbian defence. Church Ružica is the military church worth seeing, as it is the only orthodox church with bullet-made chandelier. Finally, we get to see monument dedicated to France, and learn why we still sing songs about the french ships.
The tour is created out of love for Belgrade and history, and will guide you through the two hour long emotional and cognitive rollercoaster.
