Taste Old Tokyo: Asakusa Food Walk

The tour lasts 3 hours
Available in English

Description

Step into the streets of Asakusa — one of Tokyo’s most historic and flavorful neighborhoods — and experience local food, culture, and everyday Tokyo life.

This experience is something I’m running as part of my English practice and cultural exchange, so it has a very relaxed, informal, and personal style.

On this relaxed walking tour, we’ll explore the area around Senso-ji Temple while tasting a variety of local favorites loved by both visitors and locals.

Depending on the day and the group’s interests, we may try:
・Unagi (eel) onigiri
・Freshly made monjayaki & okonomiyaki
・Local sushi
・Traditional Japanese sweets and desserts
・Classic izakaya dishes and drinks
・Other popular street foods in Asakusa

What we’ll do:
・Visit Kaminarimon Gate & Nakamise Shopping Street
・Walk around the historic Senso-ji Temple area
・Learn how to properly visit and pray at Japan’s oldest temple
・Enjoy a mix of street food, local restaurants, and casual izakaya culture
・Talk about Japanese food, culture, history, and everyday life in a relaxed way

Meals during the tour are generally paid separately by guests. If you’d like to share a meal together, any gesture such as covering my meal or leaving a tip is always appreciated, but completely optional and never expected.

If you have any preferences or foods you’d like to try in advance, feel free to let me know—I’m happy to adjust the experience accordingly.

Although this experience is designed to be around 3 hours, the timing is flexible depending on your schedule and preferences.

I only accept one booking per tour, so this is a very private, one-on-one style experience rather than a group tour.

This is a casual, conversation-style experience — not a formal history lecture or a rushed food tour. I want guests to enjoy Asakusa the way locals do: through good food, interesting stories, and authentic cultural experiences.

Meeting point: In front of Kaminarimon Gate (Thunder Gate), Asakusa
Duration: Approx. 3 hours

Guiding since 2026
Hi, I'm Daiki — a 25-year-old Tokyo local who has spent most of my life exploring the streets, food, and hidden corners of this city. I started guiding because I'm on a journey to improve my English, and there's no better way to learn than through real conversations with travelers from around the world. Tokyo is a city I know deeply and love deeply. I want to share the side of it that guidebooks miss — the backstreets, the local food, the everyday life that makes this city so special. Come walk with me. Let's explore Tokyo together! Feel free to contact me anytime. WhatsApp: +81-80-3395-3535

I'll send you a photo on the day! The gate is a 5-minute walk from Asakusa Station (Tokyo Metro Ginza Line / Toei Asakusa Line, Exit 1).Open in Google Maps

Hoppy StreetThe heart of old Tokyo's drinking and food culture. We'll stop for menchi katsu (crispy deep-fried minced beef) and I'll tell you about the history of this beloved local street.

日本、〒111-0032 東京都台東区浅草4丁目15−14Depending on the mood and interests of the group, we can keep the experience flexible throughout the tour. We might stop by a local sushi restaurant, grab drinks and small dishes at an izakaya, watch a traditional performance, or explore places where you can experience the everyday local atmosphere of Tokyo. Rather than following a strict schedule, I want the experience to feel natural, relaxed, and personalized to the moment.
