I was born in Patagonia and have lived in the La Boca neighborhood for five years. My greatest wish is that anyone who comes to Argentina, upon setting foot on this land, feels a little bit Argentine. This would be a great honor and bring me immense satisfaction. For the Argentine heart, in our land, no one is a foreigner if they come with the desire to feel like one of our brothers and sisters. That heart and that brotherhood are what we offer most sincerely and most preciously.

Tour description

Almagro and Boedo are sister neighborhoods. They share a border, history, immigrants, and an obsession with tango. They are separated by a single avenue—Castro Barros—but for decades, the people of the neighborhood didn't even know exactly where one ended and the other began. The same musicians played in the same bars, the same writers gathered on the same street corners, and the same yellow fever epidemic of 1871 had populated them with the same families who fled the city center.

This tour explores them as they always were: a single cultural territory with two names. It begins in the Salesian heart of Almagro—where Gardel sang as a child and Pope Francis was baptized—crosses the invisible border into Boedo following the thread of tango, literature, and notable bars, and ends where it belongs: at Roberto's Bar, the oldest bar in the neighborhood, open since 1893, where tango truly resonates every night.
