The only tour in Catalan in Belfast! Free tour of West Belfast: peace walls, conflict, and consequences
Description
Dia duit (hello in Irish Gaelic)! My name is Elisabet, I'm from Barcelona, and I'm finishing a master's degree in conflict transformation and social justice in Belfast.
My interest in the city has led me to want to share it with more people, which is why I organize the only free tour in Belfast in Catalan. It is a political tour in the West Belfast area. There will be a maximum of 5 adults on this tour. I will share with you everything I have learned during the master's, as well as interviewing people who lived through the Troubles and played an important role in them.
The tour starts at the entrance of An Lon Dubh café (30 Divis St). I will begin with an introduction about the Troubles. Then we will head to the Divis Tower, a building full of history. We will continue along Falls Road, where we will see various murals and the wall that divides the republican area of Falls Road from the loyalist area of Shankill Road (did you know there are still about thirty walls throughout the city?).
Next, we will go to the Bobby Sands mural and also see two of the memory gardens. We will pass by the Clonard Monastery, and I will recommend a very interesting museum in the area (which houses a very important object for Catalonia).
I will focus on whether Northern Ireland is a post-conflict society or still in conflict, on the walls that divide unionist areas from those in favor of Irish reunification, and on Irish Gaelic, among other topics.
Finally, I will recommend pubs and restaurants in West Belfast and the center, museums, and other places in Northern Ireland. Oh, and I will teach you some words in Irish Gaelic!
