In just 5 kilometers, we will walk together through a neighborhood that has been an orchard, a destination for mass migration from the countryside to the city, a war front, home to the most infamous prison of the dictatorship, an industrial area, and now a contemporary art scene with internationally renowned galleries and the largest number of rehearsal studios in Madrid.

I will show you how speculation, politics, and migration created neighborhoods of cheap houses, colonies, and developmental blocks, why there are so many cemeteries in Carabanchel, where the Republican trench was, and how deindustrialization left empty spaces that musicians, artists, neighbors, investors, and speculators have turned (and continue to turn) into something else.

We will end in a park that is a palimpsest: neighborhood pressure, repression, the largest rally in Spain's history, and a fortune built on slavery in Cuba.
